[lug] java2-compatible?

I recently installed 1.4 and was happily surprised to see many new
packages (such as "regex") and new methods in the String class.

There is a little bug for Redhat 7.1, the System.exit() method will
always return 0. To fix it you have to intall a compat library, you can
find details at the sun download page. I haven't installed the fix yet,

b/c the code I'm writing isn't effected by that.

I don't write much gui, other than jsp, nor do I run many java
applications
other than tomcat and jta20(an amazing telnet/ssh application/applet).
Allows you to connect to you pc from any browser. So I haven't
encountered

the issue you have.

More information to add to my quest. I went to java.sun.com, and see
their standard edition listed as java2 is 1.3. But there is also a 1.4
beta. Java versions seem to be a thorn in the side, can anyone suggest
whether 1.3 or 1.4 beta is preferred for the java2 edition, if using the

sun versions?
