win98se did have some sort of modem sharing, but I don't know anything
else about it. There are also people who make programs out there (& sell
them) to do this as well. Unless the modem is a winmodem (& even then
support is much better nowadays) I would suggest putting the modem in
the linux box then run nat to have as many machines as you need behind
that box.
