IDL has a very large number of built-in statistical procedures:
http://www.rsinc.com/  It is commercial, but the student or single
user versions may be within reach.

If it were not for our site license for IDL, I would 
certainly take a look at RLaB:

Although not specifically X, there is an electronic textbook on-line:
