Flopticals are a hybrid magnetic media that uses optical tracking.  Data is
stored magnetically, just like on floppies, but there are optical "rails"
that guide the read/write heads.  This allows much more accurate tracking
than you see on normal floppies.

As far as availability, a search on shopper.com for "ls-120" returned a
number of results.  Looked like they were going for around $100 for the
drive.
