[lug] Oracle 8i on KRUD/RedHat 7.1?

java does not like 2.4.x kernels.  You need to 

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

if you haven't already.

I would suggest putting it in $JAVA_HOME/bin/java  (which is a script)
