Yes, I've never seen any advantage, and the tax write off is the example
usually given.  However, the problem is that LUG's seldom need or even
want donations that are large enough to offer any kind of significant tax
advantage.  At least not that I'm aware of - I'm certainly not an
accountant.  About the largest donation the BLUG ever asked for was the
$100 fee we needed to cover the power installation at the trade show we
did in Denver.  I don't think that one gets much of a tax break for
itemizing a $100 donation.
