Hmmm OK, I did finally locate the source of where I first became aware of
the idea <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rmiug-discuss/message/704>.  It
appears that it isn't a dash but rather a plus.  That makes the message
me+whatever at someplace.org.  Just tested it and it does seem to work.

I still don't know why this should be allowed though.  Anyone ...?
