[lug] group ownership inheritance

I seem to remember being able to set the permissions on a directory so
that the group ownership of its children files all match that of the
parent directory.  Sticky bit - maybe?  Should be a simple thing, but I've
not been able to find a quick answer today.  Anyone here ...?
