The problem is that the data has been moved around an the quality is
unknown.
This creates infinite possibilities for dat error.
1. Moved from UNIX to PC without converting.
2. Compressed with unknown compression software.
3. Extreme possibility Data was corrupted before transfer.
4. Compression from unknow OS, i.e (UNIX, HP-UX, XENIX, etc)
This is but a few of the problems.
You need to find out the original location and machine the compression
was completed on, and the type of Operating System. Work forward from
there. You may not save all of it but maybe enough. If not you're
looking at a major examination of all data and how to reconstruct. This
leads to the question, "IS IT WORTH THE EFFORT?"
