[lug] /proc/sys/fs/inode-max missing?

Howdy all --

I suspect that a file server I have may be running out available inodes.  I
went to adjust this and found that under /proc/sys/fs the file "inode-max"
is missing.  I've checked another system with a similar build and it is also
missing the file, so I suspect this may be a Redhat version thing.  Both
systems are RH 7.1.  I doubt it is a kernel version thing since one system
is 2.4.3 and the other is 2.4.9 -- stock RH provided kernels.

I'm now confused.  I have checked several RH systems and all 7.0 systems
have the file, while none of my 7.1 systems have it.

Can anyone help?
