[lug] RH 7.2 Sound problem

I've search the google archives for an answer to this one, but can't 
find one.  My Soundblaster Live! card works fine for playing audio files 
(eg, play <audiofile.au>), but won't work with CDs.  I've been using 
gtcd to play them and gmix to adjust the mixer, but haven't found the 
right combination.  I've read suggestions regarding the use of xmixer 
over gmix, but under RH7.2 they are all (including aumix) now syncronized.

What else can I try?  Are there any sound diagnostic tools?

BTW, the CD player works fine on W2K, so that should eliminate some 
basic hardware concerns.
