Further data points: Kevin (kernel 2.4.18, pcmcia-cs-3.1.27, Inspiron
5000) has no problem with either of his Orinoco Silver cards.  Ed (2.4.9
from RedHat, 3.1.27, IBM A22p) and I (2.4.18 SuSE, 3.1.33, Inspiron 7500)
have the same symptoms you do.

Weirdness has occurred.
