even better, run one of the -ac kernels.  bugfixes will often show up in
the -ac series before appearing in the mainline.  2.4.19-pre5-ac3 seems to
be the latest -ac as of this writing.

also, if you're going to run non-vendor kernels, you should seriously
consider subscribing to the linux-kernel mailing list.
