[lug] USB floppy drive on a laptop

A friend bought a new HP laptop, and added a USB floppy drive.
The machine has a dual boot, and WIN recognizes the drive.
Kudzu ran and evidently modified some files.  At least there
is an entry for a USB floppy, but there is also one for a USB
hard disk.  The problem is that the floppy seems not to be
seen, and can't be mounted.

Is this a familiar and fixable problem?
