the evolution rpm from ximian doesn't require gnome-spell but if you
install it it will work (I'm using it right now).

I did run into a problem with evolution 1.0.2 and a version of
libgtkhtml where it would crash the mail portion if you did a spell
check.  I think the latest libgtkhtml and evolution don't have that
problem.
