Exe's?  If you mean "executable" they are generally called "binaries" or 
"bins" by cool UNIX guys.

If you really mean [someprogram].exe one of us is confused.

This makes no sense, since the Win32 and Linux packages are separate packages.  
By the time the installer runs there isn't any question of what OS you are 
on.

Is there something you aren't telling us?  Like are you trying to run the 
windows version of SO with wine or something?

Something seems way out of whack here.

Also, have you considered OpenOffice?  It is more up to date than SO 5.2, and 
is Free (where SO 5 is only free).
