On a related note, everyone should be aware that a common source
of spam is misconfigured mail agents that allow arbitrary messages
to be sent to arbitrary addresses.  E.g., many "email this story
to a friend" links used to provide a textarea for the sender to 
include a brief message.

Nice idea, but in practice this textarea is stuffed with the spammer's
message.

The bottom line to all of this is that you shouldn't be too fast
to ignore the mail to your web server, especially bounce messages.
It may be your best marker that someone is using your site to spam
others.
