I've actually had good luck with using fdisk to repartition a drive
exactly the way it was before something (usually Windows) toasted the
table. If you remember the layout you might want to try this just in
case that was the only thing that got fried. Obviously creating the
filesystems on the recreated partitions will wreck the chances of this
working. If the disk repartitions but e2fsck -n blows up you might
want to use -b to specify one of the backup superblocks.
