I have a Lucent modem

[XXX at YYY ~]$ lspci | grep Lucent
00:03.0 Communication controller: Lucent Microelectronics WinModem 56k
(rev 01)

in my laptop and it has worked fairly well with both RH 7.2 and 7.3
using the driver at:

  http://www.heby.de/ltmodem

which was *quite* easy to install--just follow their directions.
