[lug] local computer stores / video card rec

I have not yet found a good hardware supply in Boulder. Try Denver.
About the video card.....as you know Linux support for hardware can
be a challange sometimes.Even with products claming Linux compatabiltiy.
So when I am buying hardware for a Linux box I tend not to be cheap.
Unless the box is a firewall or doesn't have X.Anyway...cheap hardware
gives cheap results under all Os and espically under Linux. You proably
did not pay for a copy of Linux or any software product you are going to
run,
so take the money you saved and get a Nvidia based card and quit being
cheap! :p....also your benchmark question....windows benchmarks on
video cards are worthless for comparing to linux. Those benchmarks
are done with manufcture made drivers specfic for the windoz os. The
Linux Driver people just cant write drivers for everything and make them as
good
as a team writing for just a few pieces of hardware with all the spec they
need.
However there is one....Nvidia. There is a default linux driver for nvidia
chipset..caled nv. This driver gives shity performance. Nvidia makes ther
own Linux driver for ther chipset. Actually its the same driver used for
win32 just tweeked slightley i guess. Anyway runs awsome in all senarios.
And
even when Im just surfing or writing code things are better. I never get
X crashes since I moved from ATI Radeon to Nvidia.

Just giving you a hard time,
jd
