My memory is a bit faded regarding the details as to whether it was due to
sending or receiving problems, but I switched off dns in the sendmail.cf
file:
O ServiceSwitchFile=/etc/mail/service-nodns.switch
Also, if you're not running sendmail as a daemon, then make sure you have
it enabled in /etc/inetd.
