It's difficult to say since you didn't give the type of machine. A good
resource is comp.os.linux.alpha
I have RedHat 7.2 running on a Ruffian, which is generally considered to be
a problematic box, so with persistence you can get it to work.
BSD will only run if the machine supports SRM. If you run ARCBios, then you
are out of luck.

Business has been slow so I got a job as a bench-tech next door.
So the owner buys massive amounts of used and new hardware from here
and there and sells it on E-bay...anyway.Im getting a some 500mhz
Alpha based box tommorow for $325....I think this is a good deal.
Anyway, I have never played with anything other than x86..will
the redhat 7.2 alpha iso be good for this box? Or maybe some BSD?
