The old handheld b&w casiopeia PDA's can be loaded with linux, as can the
Sharp 6000's. Both have pcmcia slots and can be upgraded with compact
flash memory for additional programs. I got my caseopeia for $120 the
sharp for $300 (the caseopeia is the instructors version the student
version doesn't have pcmcia- buy the ac adapter with this though- lousy
battery life). I've been thinking of turning one of these into a portable
firewall device.

In my (extremely limited) spare time, I'd like to tinker with cheap,
solid-state linux boxes, such as you might use for building a SOHO
firewall system or, if made even smaller, perhaps even a children's toy
controller. Can anyone recommend any web resources for getting up to
speed on the state of that industry, including comparitive prices and
sizes? Ideally I'd be looking at a 16-32MB system, recent kernel, and
perhaps nothing on the outside except power and ethernet connectors.
Well, I love my Sharp Zaurus.
It's one of the best little gadgets I've ever had.
This is probably not what you had in mind, but I
would still be interested to know if there are other
Zaurus users on this list?
Maybe we could have a ZarusFest someday...
