Hi Nate,

Thanks for the recent posts about embedded platforms.

Though I'm not an embedded developer, I'm becoming interested in the
small (PC-104 form factor or similar), cheap, and x86-compatible systems
as advertised in Linux Journal and Linux Magazine.  In our lab, we have
many serial- (both USB and RS-232) and parallel-port devices.  It would
be convenient if we could control them using unobtrusive little PC-104-
sized systems that were running Linux and allowed SSH and HTTP
connections.

Currently, we're using recycled old (eg. P5) boxes.  They're not
reliable (both due to age and occasional spills during experiments) and
they take up a lot of space.  It would be cool to run just a single
Cat-5 cable to each device and thus keep the (often multiple) serial and
parallel-port lines short, local, and perhaps even sealed in a water-
resistant enclosure.

So my question: have you used any such devices?  If so, can you (or
anyone else) make recommendations?
