This probably doesn't apply, but if a setting is made then
/var/spool/lpd/ will use symbolic links, rather than copy of a complete
file there for printing. In that case, there are times when print fails
due to printing files from which no symbolic link is possible...e.g.,
some remote directories. But in that case, there would be no successful
page prints, rather than gaps. I would have to wonder if the missing
pages show up when viewed in ghostview (gv), since likely it is
ghostview interpreting the file into the printer language. Viewing in
xpdf may not show the same errors as printing in xpdf; but viewing and
printing should be fairly close between gv and printing, in either the
case of pdf or postscript. There is a possibility that the
interpretation of formats is causing missing pages.
