[lug] new kernel

Hello,
  I have a alpha based box running on rh7.1 alpha. I am using the default
install kernel (2.4.3-12).I would like to use the most current 2.4 kernel
if possible. Are there any issues i would face if i just download a kernel
from kernel.org and compiled it...once on this list some expressed suprise
for not using a kernel from my distributor....so?
BTW...this box will host about 70 small domains and do mail itself.
