|Best of show first week in January, and almost belly up and CEO retired a
|couple of months later. It was one of the jucier stories last year. It
|is interesting to hear that it is still around at all, after the
|circumstances it was in last year.

When I was at Echostar we "supported" them, which means we through a
bunch of undocumented code their way. Moxi's problem was mostly one of
timing. I don't know the exact figures but their original materials
costs were high, like the box had to cost in the $1500+ range to break
even; I got the number from a vendor I consulted with who was talking
with them and *didn't* want to do business with them, if you can imagine
that. Way too high for a settop box, especially in the current economic
climate. They were in a bad place, they weren't going to sell enough
moxis to warrant the utlra deep discounts some vendors do (moxi didn't
have a round 2 product that was going to cost $200 and sell 2million
units) and without those discounts the product never had a chance of
being affordable. Even with them it was a very pricey TV add on when
you could but a $250 tivo or get one for free from DirecTV.
There are some other, more obvious, problems with their model that I
can't comment on.
Allen is serious so maybe they can turn it around and make something happen.
