There is one thing that I dont like about ext2f filesystems. This is
the disk access that takes place every 5 seconds or so on each file
system. The incessant chirping is like chinese water torture to me. (I
am running ext3 on the internal disk on this laptop and it is bugging
me as we speak. I thought it worthwhile to try again.

I dont think you can set the DMA mode on disks driven through the
SCSI interface. I tried last night. There is no other disk
activity. The OS is running of the internal disk (/dev/hda), and I
can watch the access light when I start the test.
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
