[lug] Gimp not writing files

Maybe a stupid question, but - how do I get gimp to save a file? The manual
talks about a Save option under File, yet there is no displayed Save or Export
option. Control-S appears to work for rewriting the entire file, but I want to
save a selected portion of it or change formats.
 
System - Redhat 7.2,
Gimp version - 1.2.1-7, rpm thinks it is updated.
