Hi folks,
In an attempt to start a Golden/Denver-West chapter of the Hacking
Society:
http://www.hackingsociety.org/
you're invited to join us at the Higher Grounds coffee shop in Golden on
Wednesday, Dec 11th from 7--10pm. Higher Grounds is a great little spot
with a newly installed broadband connection serving an open 802.11b
network [1]. Its at the intersection of 14th and Washington in downtown
Golden (across 14th from the Table Mesa Inn).
So whats the Hacking Society? The web site describes the goal as:
"...foster geek community-building through the shared experience of
hacking. Of course, by 'hacking', I mean the more historic meaning
of working on interesting projects (Jargon File 'hack' entry, sense
6 [2]). Not the 'script kiddies trying to compromise boxes' meaning
which has become what most people think of in relation to the term."
In addition to coding, HS meetings are a great venue to share/demo Free
and Open Source software, get assistance with Linux installs & upgrades,
ask others for help/advice, and enjoy hot beverages.
Hope to see [3] you there!
If you can't physically attend, you can join us virtually on IRC at
#hackingsociety on irc.community.tummy.com. We may get together for
dinner beforehand at Woody's Pizza--email me if you're interested.

[2] Hacking: (6) vi. To interact with a computer in a playful and
exploratory rather than goal-directed way. "Whatcha up to?"
"Oh, just hacking."
[3] I'm the guy with the ThinkPad sporting the big "LNX" sticker
picked up at a past CLUE meeting. I'll bring extra power
strips and a loaner 802.11b PCMCIA card.
