[lug] Debian...again

Hello,
 So i have grown restless with my Linux distro (rh7.3)...so here
i am with debian3.0 again. This time its staying. 
 So i am a almost first time debian user. I need some advice about
setting my box back up. I want the newest Evolution,Mozilla,Gnome
and VMWare if possible. Should I just download and compile, or should
I use apt or am I SOL? 
Is there a list that contains all the servers i can use to get new
pkgs with apt?
