You might try to edit the kernel source toplevel Makefile, and on the
line which is by default empty after the "=", the CROSS_COMPILE line,
name the compiler you want to use. Leave HOSTCC the same, add the
compiler you are trying to CROSS_COMPILE. Be sure to change the
EXTRAVERSION line as well, you don't want to overwrite an existing
kernel or its modules with something new that might not work.
