It's more than just wether the label says ball bearing or whatever...
It's really the over-all design and build of the fan, I've found.  I've
had plenty of "expensive, ball-bearing" fans that didn't last at all
well.  On the other hand, I have some IBM machines that have not only
the quietest fans I've ever heard, but they've been in constant service
for around 6 years now and the fans haven't freaked out yet...
