I'll throw my two cents in.  If you use Gkrellm, there is a plugin
called GkrellShoot.  It uses ImageMagick (I think), but it provided a
nice one-button screenshot taker that, if you use Gkrellm, is always
there.  You can output to any format.  (It also provides a "lock"
button, which is the main reason I use it.)
