In these environments, I tend to prefer Debian too, but it has nothing to do 
with apt's dist-upgrade capability.  Debian's release cycle seems more 
conducive to keeping an older release in production.  I find that in most 
cases the original OS distribution will outlive a server's purpose or 
performance limitations, provided you can still get security patches.
