normally cardctl ident will return something like:

Socket 0:
product info: "The Linksys Group, Inc.", "Instant Wireless Network PC
Card", "ISL37300P", "RevA"
 manfid: 0x0274, 0x1613
 function: 6 (network)

and /var/log/messages has:

cardmgr[1405]: socket 0: Linksys Instant Wireless Network PC Card WPC11
v3
cardmgr[1405]: executing 'modprobe hermes'
cardmgr[1405]: executing 'modprobe orinoco'
cardmgr[1405]: executing 'modprobe orinoco_cs'

Also, the modules pcmcia_core yenta_socket get loaded for the pcmcia
subsystem.

I'm inclined to wonder if the card works at all because pcmcia isn't
getting anything from the card. Have you tried it under a different os
or on a different computer? You might try attending one of the hacker
club meetings and borrow a different wireless card.
