[lug] Colocation recommendations: strike American ISP

Hi all,
There's periodically requests for colocation referrals on this ML, and I've
suggested American ISP in the past.
Strike that.
They decided to move their facilities from Lakewood to downtown Denver
without bothering to tell the colocated customers. They claim they sent out
a notice on the Friday immediately prior to the move, but I (and apparently
others) never got it. Not that it matters much - given such short notice
few people could perform the myriad tasks required before a substantial
move.
But wait, it gets worse! They not only pulled the plug without any notice,
they aren't responding to repeated telephone calls or email! It's been a
full week since the initial attempts to contact them, almost 10 days since
they pulled the plugs, and still nothing!
I guess they are too busy helping the dialup users running Windows 95 to
bother with people who actually entrusted computers to them, who pay a hell
of a lot more than the dialup users every month for bandwidth and power, and
who are facing serious business problems because they've "gone dark" for
nearly 10 days now. Too busy to even allow us access to our boxes so we can
use these development environments, etc.
Then there's the whole issue of what businesses can legitimately do on their
own servers. How many contracts have been breached because of lost
connectivity, because of lost access to material on the servers, or even
because of lost control over the servers themselves. (Exactly who moved
these servers, anyway?)
So it should come as no surprise that I retract my earlier recommendation
for these clowns, and suggest everyone stay well clear of them in the
future.
Bear
