I'm pretty certain that if you use the alsa sound driver there are some built
in hooks to capture the sound as it leaves the driver. I also know that if
you buy the commercial OSS compatible drivers from 4-front they offer this
capability.
Last I heard 4front was getting out of the sound driver business, though.
They are the guys who first wrote the Linux sound drivers who then went pro.
