[lug] OT: looking for reasonable lcd sources

I would contact Gateway customer support directly, and very politely
explain the situation. Ask them to quote a price for the part, if they
have one, and ask if you can get the part at cost. Though in some sense
your friend is in the same boat as someone who just broke their laptop
screen, in another, life in a wheelchair is different, and things that we
all take for granted in terms of the way we interact with technology,
buildings and our environment in general are more challenging. I think
it would be worth Gateway showing some consideration. Maybe they won't
but it doesn't hurt to ask people to be kind and generous.

Sometimes you can get lucky, and it takes just a small amount of time to
send an email or make a phone call.

This does bring up a question that I have been mulling for some time.

Other than Itronix Gobooks, and Panasonic Toughbooks, does anyone know of
any ruggedized or semi-ruggedized laptop systems that will run Linux
happily (perhaps preinstalled even)?
