[lug] Sort-of-dead server

I wasn't able to test logging in via console because this is a 
co-located server.  Logging into another server on the LAN produced the 
nmap results I quoted.

Upon reboot (hard reboot, since I couldn't SSH to the machine) 
everything came up fine, and the system is running smoothly again.  
It's possible this was just a fluke "zombie" state, but I'm interested 
in figuring out what happened so I can avoid having it happen again...

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
