[lug] kpilot and Zire 21

I am trying to get Kpilot up with a Zire 21 Palm/Handspring. I've
never used either before, so I'm fumbling around a bit. My first
fumble is making sure that the serial connection to my computer is
actually working. Note that my computer is relatively "old" (several
years old) and I'm running KRUD 8.0. That means I'm running
kpilot 4.3.3 and pilot-link 0.11.3.
I've tried configuring kpilot to use ttys0 or ttys1 without success.
That doesn't really surprise me :-), but the documentation said those
were the most common, so I tried them anyway. At that point, I
dug around in /dev and found /dev/usb/ttyUSB0, which seemed promising.
Unfortunately, the behavior I get is still the same ... kpilot starts
the HotSync and sits there with a 0% Sync Progress shown. Also
discouraging is that running lsusb produces the error message
"cannot open /proc/bus/usb, No such file or directory (2)"
Poking around in /var/log/messages to check the boot log of my PC
shows no mention of any usb devices, though it does show ttys0 and
ttys1 being configured.
I've got zero experience with USB devices, so any and all suggestions/
enlightenment will be welcome.
Take care,
Liz
