[lug] Large file support -- the answer

My thanks to the folks who responded to my request for kernel options for large file support. The solution turned out to be rather screwy.

Despite boot messages in dmesg declaring that all three partitions were reiserfs version 3.6, this appears to have been true for only one of the three partitions. Just for grins, I did a "mount -o conv ..." which converts reiserfs 3.5 partitions to version 3.6 and viola!! I was able to create file larger than 2Gigs on **ALL** 2.4.x kernels.

Greg Seker asked what I was doing with such large files. For the holidays, I bought myself a used ReplayTV PVR and installed DVArchive on my Mandrake box. DVArchive allows you to move the MPG files off of the Replay unit's limited storage and stream shows back to the Replay unit directly from the Linux box. Showtime had the first two Lord of the Rings movies and because of their length, they created 2.4G MPG files which set off this thread. So much for deep intellectual drivers.....

Thanks again to all responders. I hope this solution helps somebody else.
