[lug] OT power line communication

BPL is one of the lowest slimiest things the Commission has done in
years. Hundreds of licensed RF services will be impacted by the
deployment of the technology. Military, Broadcast, Ham Radio, etc.
As one of my Ham Radio friends put it... "The FCC has switched from
being a technical body to being cheerleaders for new technology. I
guess they've learned that being technical just doesn't pay."
I agree. The Commissioners are on the take. Powell's keeping family
friends happy, and one Commissioner called BPL "Broadband Nirvana" in a
press conference while opposing technical viewpoints poured into the
FCC during the comment period for the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.
The final NPRM includes insanely stupid commentary like "will raise the
quality of rural electric service" in it, which shows a 100% political
bent and zero time spent looking at the technical aspects.
I figure if it continues, even though the NTIA (the regulatory body
that regulates the military and the Federal Government's frequency use)
didn't attack the FCC during the latest hearing, when the military HF
bands get trashed, the NTIA will come unglued on the Commission. Then
the real fireworks will begin.
Of course, by then Powell and cronies will be long-gone and paid off
and hanging out in the Hamptons or where ever rich powerful people hang
out these days.
I can see it now...
"Mayday, mayday, mayday... <unintelligible>"
"Sorry I can't hear you through the broadband over powerline
interference. Say again, Over."
"<unintelligible>... taking on water... coordinates... <unintelligible>"
"Anyone else hear him better? Relay anyone?"
(Neighbor knocks on door)
"Come on in!"
"Hey you've knocked out my Internet again and Timmy can't play Unreal
Tournament!"
"I'm trying to copy a mayday call on the Maritime Mobile Net!"
"Well get off that thing, my kid is pissed!"
"There's some guy in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on a sailboat
CALLING MAYDAY YOU IDIOT! Get out of my house!"
