What are you worried about breaking? It doesn't sound like you're
changing your boot sector at all. So if you don't change your kernel,
init.rd or lilo.conf you won't impact booting at all.

What are you planning to change in lilo.conf? Why? It should have
nothing to do with a CD-RW.
