I finally moved from Redhat to Debian on my primary home workstation and
I'm feeling like a coddled Linux user (I'll get over it). I installed
with the Debian Installer beta 4 and used the tasksel option and chose
most of the task groupings.
Some things I've run up against:
What's the right/preferred way to configure X under Debian? I ended up
copying pieces of my Redhat XF86Config.
What's the best way to get the full package name in dpkg -l output? If
it is dpkg-query -W --showformat, where's a list of the available field
names?
Why do the kde and kdenetwork packages have ksirc as a dependency? I
was surprised that apt-get remove was ready to throw out kde and
kdenetwork as a result of trying to remove ksirc.
Right now the fonts in evolution and mozilla firefox under KDE are small
and unappealing. The KDE-aware applications look great (there used to
be a check-box in the control center that allowed you to apply KDE
fonts/etc to non-KDE applications but I can't find it now).
