Two programs specific to this area are XQuote and XInvest:

I used to use both of them but stopped after I bought my house. I
really liked them, though.
Budgeting is done with a mongo-sized spreadsheet I put together under
Applix spreadsheet. I've used it for years, though at some point I'll
have to switch to something else. I don't like OpenOffice's spreadsheet
that much and Gnumeric still lacks some of the clean fonts that make
onscreen display crisp (re: easy on my old eyes).
That's all I know of, but I'm sure there are others.

Try the Motley Fool. Pretty decent stuff there, though I'm not on any
discussion lists.
