Ok, I went through the logs and found this:
power:/home/p51/tmp/nforce # cat /var/log/nvidia-installer.log
nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'

'/lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-default/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko' (No
such
file or directory).
-> done.
WARNING: Your driver installation has been altered since it was
initially
installed; this may happen, for example, if you have since
installed
the NVIDIA driver through a mechanism other than the
nvidia-installer
(such as rpm or with the NVIDIA tarballs). The
nvidia-installer will
attempt to uninstall as best it can. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details.
-> Uninstalling NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86

-> Uninstallation of existing driver: NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver
for
Linux-x86 (1.0-5336) is complete.
So I think the kernel modules were not compiled for this new kernel.
But check this out:
power:/home/p51/tmp/nforce # lsmod |grep nv
nvidia 2070120 0
nvram 8456 0
nvidia_agp 7708 1
agpgart 30888 1 nvidia_agp
So some of the modules are still there.
I'm guessing I have to re-compile the kernel with nvidia support (
available in 2.6 ) or just wait for Suse to come out with an update.
Do you think this is a proper conclusion??
Thanks,
Paul
