There are a lot of really cheap drive carriers out there.  The good ones have built-in fans, and keep disks cool or cooler than if they were just mounted in the machine.  

Also watch out for iDE carriers that are only rated for slower IDE speeds... If it doesn't say, move on to one that does -- or be willing to pull them and switch to something else (usually marginally more expensive) later if you have problems.
