mgetty can do this and also watch for ppp connect requests on the same modem if you want "real" network access. 

Setup is a bit of a bear, if you get stuck, holler.

Greetings.  Anyone use a modem for remote administration of a server?
Any suggestions as to what to look for?

Basically, this external modem will be setup at our remote location so I 
can dial into it and get shell access to our server.

The server is running Redhat 9.
