Is there a simple way to determine which special file in
/dev a device is associated with. For example, I know from
using lsusb the device and bus number
bus:device
or from lspci
bus:slot:func
how can I determine the special file that I would then use
to mount the device?
Another somewhat unrelated question, after a discussion a
few weeks ago regarding webcams in which it was suggested
that I just use a digital camera and gphoto2 to capture
images, I bought a Canon A85.
I can only get photos from it if I log in as root. I use
both Debian and Slackware. Under Debian I was able to figure
out that the group the camera belonged to was plugdev and
then added myself to this group. Under slackware, I'm
totally clueless. Also, from running
gpoto2 --camera "Canon PowerShot A85 (normal mode)"
--abilities
I believe I should be able to capture images. But it appears
that I don't have write permissions. Because I don't know
what special file it uses in /dev, I can't check it. I did a
quick google and I didn't see anyone else having this
problem. Can anyone shed some light on this?
